It occurs to me one of you might be able to advise me on this one. I've had an addition added to my house that includes a closet for my gun safe and shooting stuff. I've spent most of the afternoon driving around in my truck and then rooting around the internet trying to find a source for shelving suitable for storing my ammo. I want something steel, under 8 ft. tall, two or three feet wide --and here's the kicker--8" or less deep. 12 inch shelves will just hog up my closet space. I guess I could build something but I'm not handy and with trips to Lowe's it would take me a day. Suggestions?

Welcome to the new site, let see if i can come up with something for ya. I'll look around ...Does it have to be steel. I'm thinking maybe a shoe organizer solid type with all the little cubbys from floor to ceiling. unless the closet isnt locked, then i'm thinking another gun cabibet that you can shelve out and lock. welcome to East Coast Hunters Forum . Ammo is so heavy it makes most non-steel shelves sag. That's part of why I'd prefer 24" wide. I haven't seen any shoe storage system that's strong enough.

Thanks, but those things take up too much floorspace and are so heavy if I put one next to the 500 lb. gun safe I'd have go into the crawl space and bolster the floor. I think I'll feel secure enough with just a lock on the double door of the closet for ammo security. If someone were to tear the door off to get the ammo, it would still be no use to them without the guns and the guns are in a fireproof safe.

kinda sounds to me that with the amount of ammo you seem to be talking about, it should be in fireproof containment. its gonna make the firemen wonder if you ever have a fire, why your runnin for the hills so fast . i would think one of the metal shelf deals with doors would work fine. a piece of plywood on edge to support the middle of the shelves would be enough to keep from sagging. you remember them the metal "closets " people used to have .
