Looking good Bowman. I wish MD would allow stone points... then I might consider hunting 'primitive.' You gonna bring your knapping stuff to Ohio and show me how it's done?

I bought the heads from ebay as my knapping is still on zero. They only cost about three bucks each. ;D
I hope to have some of my own heads next year. We'll see.
Right now I have my rivercane shafts dry and am getting ready to actually make the arrows. Hope I don't screw up because I only have a few shafts dry.
Oh, if I get thinks like I want, I'll be sure to have them in Ohio. Might even hunt with them some. ;D

Hmmm cheatin are we I haven't had time to do much knapping but still plan on it when time arises. I doubt I'll get much of a chance before season to get any within the weight range i want. most of mine continue to be too thick and heavy, more of a spear head lol.

No, I don't have em just right yet. I MIGHT have one ready tomorrow but ... I had such a glorious day today, I have to work tomorrow. Took my dumptruck to the landfill and no matter how I tried, I couldn't get the bed to raise. Wound up hand unloading over 7500lbs of wet shingles and not completing the job. I don't know if I'll get to go tomorrow afternoon or not. I might ferry Israel back and forth to the dove huntin farm.

don't throw that computer like that , your gonna hurt someone . Not fair taking two posts and combining them, you could have a career with the media doing that lol. I'm curious to see if its the same reeds we used to have by my house when i was growing up. i wonder how bamboo would work ? I have a friend who has all sorts of bamboo growing by his place , all different sizes too.

Nice heads bowman, how are you going to trim off thr backs? You better be careful with the canes if you only have a few, overheating the nodes will cause them to break pretty easily. Rick I am pretty sure that the right sized bamboo will work just fine. Here is a pic of the last few arrows I made.

Lookin good Dusty,
Hated to do it but I picked the notches off and squared the backs with a copper nail.
Couple of questions, do you cut the feathers with sizzors or do you have a press?
Selfnocks, is it needed to plug the nock end if you go right behind a node with the nock?

The nock might work with out being plugged but I have never tried it. I cut some of the feathers with sicssors and some with Mike's feather choppers. Plugging the cane will make the inside of the nock solid so there is no sharp edge cutting you string each time you nock the arrow. It will also keep the nock end from splitting and I am guesing that may be what caused your arrow to split in the other pic. May have just been a bad cane because those things are pretty tough. Mike and I shot a few into a 4' X 4' block of concrete to see how tought they were and they went unharmed, as a matter of fact I am still shooting that same cane.
