well i got all my stuff from pixcontroller and modified my first camera tonight. my first will be built with a sony p32 3.2 mp . it is capable of also taking short video clips. i'm taking my time trying to be sure to do everything right the first time around. with a little luck i should get it pretty much finished by tomorrow night sometime, all except the camo paint job maybe. wish me luck

got my first one finished except for some camo of some sort. i can tell you modifying the cameras is very tricky and touchy to say the least. i thought i had it the other night only to find out i hadnt. i have yet to field test it i'll do it tonight and tomorrow but its functioning perfect inside. maybe a 1.5 second startup and trigger which is far better than most units out there. my next 2 will be sony p41 units with 4.1 mp. i think i have worked out most of the bugs and the next ones should get easier as i go. i'll post pics and pics from it later

i got the second one finished and it works so far. i say so far because after the first one worked pefectly the first day the second time i checked it , it had a problem. the camera connection has a short in it somewhere so i gotta start all over again with the camera modification. maybe the way KR is doing it is the way to go.. a plug and play camera . small circuitry soldering is some tricky stuff , i gotta get a smaller soldering iron . the cameras take some damn awesome pictures though . Barb has a continuing education class this weekend so i will have some time to mess with the cameras some , i'll post up then. i do know one thing both of the controller board companies are soooo sloooowwww its pathetic.

here are a few pics of my first couple trailcams. got 1 out in the woods field testing it . like my hillbilly camo camo duct tape . kinda tacky but who cares fast and cheap. one is horizontal and the other is vertical , figured i would try both ways and see which i liked best.

these cases are supposed to be watertight and i gooped up everything i cut pretty good. i'll go out and get it if it gets real bad lol. it will be a nice test though. i hope i get at least 1 pic just to see. it was getting dark when i put it out and i didnt get to put it right where i wanted.been waiting to get a good lock on it before putting it out. i saw a lot of deer on the way home from fishing and when i got home there was 1 in the yard .

So how much money do you have tied up in each unit? Also, how much time do you figure you've spent on them?

I got $160 into them each. i also have around 4 hours into each with the brunt of the time into modifying the cameras. a plug and play would have been much easier and less time consuming. 4.1 mp camera with just under a 2 sec trigger speed from startup to picture isnt bad. i figure i could get faster at the modifications if i did it enough. i'll be going out tomorrow to see if the one did any good.
a plug and play setup or a first time hit on the camera mods , it could be done in about 2 hours

Sounds like your having a good time building the cameras. I thought about doing that, especially since I am a Amateur Radio operator and have built a few electronic gadgets for my ham radio hobby.
Rick if you don't mind me asking where did you get your cameras? eBay? And what is the average going price for the camera?
Interesting minds want to know...LOL
I have a Stealth 35mm trail camera and about 4 months ago I bought a Moultrie 1.3 megapixel digital camera from Wal-Mart. I bought the Moultrie after I had helped my brother in law with his. I was really impressed with the Moultrie, and for $99 I thought what the heck. I don't have 300 or 400 + dollars to put into a real good camera.
But this building idea sounds like a person could get a good setup for under $200? Right?

the 3.2 mp cameras go for around 80 and the 4.1's go for around 100. if you are patient you can get them for less . the kits for them are 60 bucks and the cases are 20 . so its not too bad . modifying the camera is kinda hit or miss until its right. they have plug and play type setups too which can be put together for maybe 200 . they would be real easy to do, no camera mods.i got mine on ebay by the way occasionally someone puts one up for 75 buy it now .
