Deer Hunter Unintentionally Shot, Killed By Uncle Investigation Continues UPDATED: 6:41 pm EST November 27, 2006 This is a shame Everyone be careful out there. MANSFIELD, Ohio -- The first hunting fatality of this year's deer-gun season was reported early Monday. A 20-year-old hunter was killed outside Mansfield at about 6 a.m., an hour before hunting season was scheduled to open, NBC 4's Matt Alvarez reported. Officials from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources said that that Billy Print was shot in the midsection as he drove deer towards his uncle, 53-year-old Earl Hardy, Alvarez reported. Print was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital. Hardy suffered an unrelated heart problem and was transported to a hospital, NBC 4 reported. Officials are calling the shooting unintentional, but will continue to investigate what led up to the event. "If you look at the shooting times, half-an-hour between sunrise to sunset, it's because before that time it's a little too dark," said State wildlife officer Greg Wasilewski. "After that time it's a little too dark." www.nbc4i.com/news/10403603/detail.html

Am I reading this right? Legal hours start 1/2 hr before sunrise. He was shot while driving deer 1 hr before the season opened. That means that they were hunting at least 1 1/2 hrs before sunrise. That's pitch dark and highly illegal any place in the US. If that's what actually happened, I can't feel nearly as bad as I do about the 14 year old kid who was shot by a drunk last week. These guys were violating the law and Darwin stepped in.
