I've noticed certain things through the years of hunting and one comes to my mind. its deer vs sqirrels. has anyone but myself ever noticed that they simply seem to hate each other. i very seldom see deer when squirrels are out playing and when a deer enters if they are, they will generally climb a tree and give the deer hell. now turkeys are a differnt story all together, see a turkey and a deer may be nearby. see a bunch of sqirrels playing and your likely to not see many deer that morning. has anyone else ever noticed this?

i was telling my buddy this just the other day. when you have 15 squirrels around you and all the sudden they shut up and vanish into this air, YOU BETTER BE READY! i definetly think they arent real fond of one another.

My cut on this is that squirrels don't like to be surprised, and deer are so stealthy that they are always getting close before the squirrels notice them. This ticks the squirrels off. Squirrels barking in the distance usually has me clipping my release on the string. A nearby squirrel with his tail flashing usually tells me exactly where the deer is - it's in the direction they are facing. No need to look all around.
Squirrels are much better at spotting deer than I am, so I watch and listen to the squirrels.

I think the squirrels get pissy cause the deer come in and eat their days work. I definately notice squirrels dont like deer in their area a whole lot, but I cant say the same for the deer. Busy squirrels in a loaded oak creates a dinner bell sound for deer. I also key right into squirrel behaivor as well as the songbirds. Seems like the deer always make their final move to my stand just as they all get done with their evening song.
Good observations Rick and Walt
