I hunt in North Central Ohio. I picked the 3rd week of November simply because while I was out on Nov. 5 th, 6th and 7th I saw a few smaller bucks starting to chase after the does, but when I was out Nov. 12th thru the 15th I saw the bigger bucks with the does. The bigger bucks had run off the smaller bucks. So actually it was the start of the third week for my area. I kept seeing 12 doe morning and evening, then on the 14th I saw 11 in the morning. I figured two things, either someone shot her or she's hanging out with the master of the woods. Sure enough that evening here come the 11 does......and a few minutes later here come number 12 followed by a huge buck. He stayed by her following her everywhere. Wish she would have lead him by my stand. There was just more activity and my dad saw the big buck about 5 more times between Nov 16th - 18th. He kept coming out into the open with the does during the day. The times he was seen was 7:30 - 9:00 a.m., sometimes in the early afternoon 1:30 - 2:30, and then again usually 1/2 hour before dark. I'm planning on getting him this weekend.......

Here in west Kentucky I hunted 21 of 24 days from Oct. 30th through November 22. Of those days, the most rut activity I seen began on the 5th and had pretty much tapered off by the 16th. Many of my hunters during this time watched bucks chasing, trailing and tending does. We seen our biggest bucks from Nov. 9th to the 16th. Full moon came about and most activity was under darkness. On the down side of the moon the biggins were unseen. We continued to see smaller bucks chase. The last day we seen chasing was on 11/28.

In terms of the prerut activity of heavy activity at the breeding scrape areas, here in NE IL it starts up at the tail end of October and then really heats up the first 2 weeks of November. 10-15th is the searching chasing phase. And then 15-20 the dominant bucks are typically seen with a Doe. This is the breeding phase. I picked the third week as that is when the breeding is actually occuring at most of the areas.
But I've seen variations by as much as a week depending on the park.
