Today is the second day of the late season hunt and there were 11 guys in the field, 2 waiting ahead of me and the Conservation Police was waiting to ticket the 11th guy. Yesterday at 4 in the morning there were 25 guys waiting for the draw for 10 spots. I guess there were a mess of guys that had spent the night in their campers from the night before. It's a good property but it ain't that damned good. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, I may try tomorrow or head back to the Federal property. Last year I never had a problem getting on, but I was told that there's a bunch of guys that hunt together and it's been a problem during the early season property over there as well, that's why the Conservation Police was there. Such are the challenges of the public land arena. I have come to so much prefer properties where I get assigned a zone and/or on which there is a qualifier with a limit of permits issued. This is part of the weeding out process of assessing the quality of the public parks and just what kind of hunting opportunity they offer. Looks like I may have eliminated a 4th property for the season. Next year will be a much more concentrated effort with only 3 properties total that I'll be hunting. I will also have to focus my hunting to the period before the second gun season. And really the first 2 weeks of October are not the most productive. So the last 2 weeks of October and the month of November, need to be hunted heavily. 6 solid weeks of hunting, it's going to require planning regarding my work schedule and in terms of vacations, vacation time and finances. I just can't do it as casually as I used to and hope to elevate my game and success to where I want to take it.
Of course I get the feeling that you boys have already figured this out and have been operating this way.
