I worked real hard for this one on a highly pressured park. It turned out to be a buck that had dropped it's antlers. More later.

This one was done purely based on scouting the hunter pressure and then going to the aerial photos. I decided to go to the extreme far end of the property and hunt a funnel off of a thicket that leads to a tree line. When I got there the setup looked good I picked a tree, but then I noticed a cluster of trees just inside the thick stuff and decided to check it out. Talk about thick, but off the one tree I could cover 4 trails which were littered with fresh droppings. Furthest shot would be 15 yards, but very small windows. The 15 yard shot had a 1 foot opening. Anyway it was 3:35 by the time I was setup and I figured it was too late for trimming. At 4 I see movement through the thick stuff grab my bow, check for antlers, the head is slick and stand waiting and hoping the deer would turn and come down the 5 yard trail, there were 3 trees that would let me draw. Of course not, right down the 15 yard trail, coming through the thick stuff, I said to myself you have to be ready to draw. Just before the opening I draw, the deer turns into it quartering hard to me. This is it, either i make this shot or he'll be by me. I tell myself: "PUT IT RIGHT ON THE SPOT" and I let her go. He ran 15 yards and then slowed to a trot and then I lost him in the thick stuff. I gave it 10 minutes got down but could not find my arrow, but it was really thick in there. So I went to the spot that I marked where I last saw him and the blood starts , first a little then the spray. Then it's like nothing I've seen, so profuse. But then a deer busts out of there, but then stops. I was like I find it hard to believe but the right thing to do is to give it an hour. So I back out, I need to get some of my stuff out of there and I need to leave a note on the truck anyway and get my knife. Sooo back to the truck 1.5+ miles and I decide forget the cart I'll have to drag this one to the road, which is only like a 3 blocks or so. Back to the blood trail and it opens up even more, I could have jogged and followed this blood trail. This is with a modified Miniblaster 4 where I changed out the blades to 1-1/4" for a total cut of 2.5" but because of the shorter blades I get a full sized entrance wound. Deer went maybe 50 yards if that, it was another deer that had busted out of there. I worked so hard for this late season harvest that right then and there I did my cross and said "thank you Lord". A couple of words about the shot angle. I know that this is a hard quartering to shot. However, it is a shot that I practise routinely and I got full sized cuts on both lungs. Turns out it was a buck that had dropped.

Good job man, Outback or XT. By the way the shot was great, alot of people look down on quartering to shots but when you can hit them like that and get the penetration you are getting, it's really not much different than shooting one quartering away. 50 yard run, sounds like it worked just as well too.

great job Buckfever . i agree that a lot of hunters sorta frown on quartering to shots, but if you know your bow and have the distance down , keep it up outta the guts your alright . looks like a perfect shot to me.

That was with the Outback. I like hunting with a pendulum, especially for the up close shots, I don't like to have to hold high or low, just aim. I don't have the XT setup with a pendulum yet. I thought about going one pin with the XT though.

Congrats Buckfever on a fine season of hunting! I know it didn't go exactly as you had wished but you still had a hell of a year. IMO.
Great job!
