So we hunted the remote state land

So having studied the aerial photographs we went in today to the remote section of state land. First time that I used a bicycle in my hunting. But it was cool, we pull off the road leave the stand, sticks and bow in a hidden spot, drive to the park, sign in and bike the 1.5 miles back to where we go in, chain up the bike to a tree and in we go. I don't know why I don't do this more often even on areas not near as far, it's much easier and much faster. My partner was there before me, but we went in nearly the same way. Immediately the amount of fresh droppings and heavily traveled fresh trails and buck sign let us know that we were on to something. He set up on the side of a ridge off a grassy ridge top, I setup at the end of the next ridge over there was a saddle between the ridges and we were about 150 yards apart. 4 trails go through his setup 7 through mine. At sunset 3 doe come right through the saddle from the marsh right in between us, past him and then up into the grassy ridge top to feed. We didn't even cover 20% of the property and this is a location that has little to no pressure.

When my buddy went back to the park to get his truck and pick me up, when another hunter saw the bike, he was given the third degree about where he was hunting and so when he picked me up he said "hurry up get in the car".

He was being followed by another hunter who said he was going to follow him to see where he went in.

We were both very impressed by this find, not something that we want to publicise. We found a great late season spot and we'll scout it out real good next year.

Did I mention lots of buck sign. ;D

sounds like you have found an unknown honeyhole. should be a really good place to be next year early. funny how other hunters don't want to do their homework, i guess its easier to let someone else do the legwork . i would have taken him on quite the "wild goosechase" so to speak. maybe stop at a place that is private instead of public and act like that was it .

BF - do you bike with a tree-stand, or just the bow & arrows? I've thought about doing this, but thinking about carrying 40-50lb of gear on a bike has always shut the idea down.

in sandy soil a bike will beat you down very quickly, especially if the logging road is somewhat wet. when i tried this here , it nearly killed me. NC didnt believe me till he took a little ride lol, i was beginning to worry about him when he pulled up the driveway . he can elaborate some. if its a sturdy road it wouldnt be so bad.grass and high weeds become a problem too.

Rick - I hear ya'. I biked on the C&O canal one time above Point of Rocks where they'd put down 2 miles of sand and it about did my wife & I in.

We drive to the spot we go in and take everything out stands, sticks, backpack, bow and one of us pulls out the cart. Chain everything to a tree far enough in to be hidden from the road. Drive to the park and bike back to the spot we go in . Then chain the bike and the cart to a tree and go in. I was setup and hunting 2 miles away from the parking lot in an under an hour. My partner in 40 minutes. Very cool deal. We just need to be stealth about the location.
