What will you change next season?

Anybody got any changes planned for deer hunting next season with what you've learned this year?

I for one am going out in search for some new hunting property. I've got to find a nice BIG farm or two to hunt on next season. I have two places now that are small and limited. Their both good places during late October through November, but not so good during late season when the deer start yarding up. I've only seen one doe in the last 8 hunts. Seems they're all on another property and not passing through now, and I can't get permission to hunt on the adjoining tracts because either they don't want anyone on their land or someone else is already hunting there.
Public land is out of the question for me. There's only a couple parks near by and they're hunted so hard by so many and trampled so much, you would be lucky to run acrossed a mole. I may however, plan a trip to southern Ohio or out of state next year but time will tell.
Another thing I plan to do is take out a doe early, then focus on a buck. I'm thinking now I shouldn't have passed on one of the two 6 points I had a chance at during the rut. One at 4yds and the other at 12 yds but I was hoping the big one would come along.....and they did.....a heavy racked 8 point and an extremely wide 10+ point (couldn't really tell on the points) but niether offered an ethical shot. I passed on several doe thinking I would screw up my chance at a buck out of the same stand.
I'm planning on reading more books, scouting more and try to gain as much knowledge as I possibly can to get prepared for next season. Work got in the way alot this past year and I just didn't have the time I wanted to devote to hunting.
Most of the knowledge gaining will, and has, come from you fellas on this forum and I thank you for that.

I don't know that I would change much,except maybe go out of state for a hunt or 2. Did it the year before,and enjoyed it.Had plans for last season for out of state,just didn't pan out.I too past on a couple of marginal shooters,holding out for Mr. big,finally decided to take one. I also might try to figure this film while you hunt thing out. I normally hunt alone and its tough to make a choice,film or grab the bow.
What part of Ohio are you from Tailnbone? I'm from NE Ohio near Youngstown,but own property in SE Ohio.

very good question tailnbone, everyone should have something they would have changed up from this year.
lets see actually some of what i will do different i actually got started on this year, like getting out to that island i found, i plan on going out before spring and maybe setting up a stand. i also will hunt the honeyhole corn field i found in the latter part of bowseason much earlier than i did this year, since i now know about it.

save more money for the month of november, i definitely want to hunt Ohio 2 weeks next year. now that i'm not green on the property i have a much better understanding of the area.

try and spend more time scouting before season if thats possible.

things i regret from this season:

going to Ohio 1 week too late. never hunt the full moon out of state .

not pulling the release on that 150 class buck. although i still think i did the right thing since he never knew i was there, i still question myself on it. i kept waiting for a very high percentage shot instead of just a high percentage shot .

wasting 3 days of the ohio hunt over at the aep land. although it was nice i never saw the sign i thought i would. i wasted 2 days on 1 buck that when i finally saw it, it wasnt what i went there for. without a doubt they have some big ones there, i just didnt see them.

not spending enough time at the end of oct and beggining of nov hunting instead of working here at home lol.

learned a valuable lesson too, never shoot at an angry raccoon from the ground unless your gonna kill it. that sucker was growling and tried to run up my leg. later in the marsh i heard it whip up a fox pretty good. that damn thing was pissed

I live in NE Ohio too, Medina county, and wish I owned some property in SE Ohio. I hope to buy some property down there in the next couple years though.
