2006-2007 WV Hunting/Trapping Regulations

For those interested, that may hunt in WV, the WV DNR has posted the PDF version of the 2006-2007 Hunting/Trapping Regulations on their site.

Just thought I would share the information to my fellow hunters. In the new regs you will see some new changes in the regs. Some WMA's have antler restrictions and certain WMA's along with Hampshire County (where CWD was discovered) have made baiting illegal.

So before hunting in WV be sure to check out the new regulations.

I would hope that someday they would open up the antlerless season during the 2 week deer gun season in Lincoln county. It's been closed as long as I've been hunting in that county for seems atleast 20 years. I haven't been hunting in WVa for a few years now but hope to again. Theres nothing like hunting in the mountains. Last time I was down there I saw alot of large groups (15 - 20) of skinheads and very few bucks.
Very poor deer management in Lincoln county in my opinion. Alot of hunters from Ohio go down there and spend $100+ on a non-resident tag and don't even get the chance at getting a doe during the gun season. They could sure thin out the herd and get a better buck-to-doe ratio going.
Besides Lincoln county, there's 16 other counties that ban doe season during the 2 week gun season also. You can take a doe during archery but not gun.
I wonder how many accidents are reported each year due to hitting a doe. The numbers would probably be pretty high in those 17 counties would'nt you think? Lotta meat running around in them hills.

I have to agree with you tailnbone about wishing they had better management of the deer herd.
