OK, early season morning hunt and you've killed a deer, got it field dressed, and hung up in your shed.
You need to get to work but it's gonna be hot.
What to do? Leave him hang all day or blow off work and take the beast down before going?
I shut the barn up and leave em hang all day myself. Flys can't do much in the dark.

I'm fortunate to have access to a walk-in cooler at a local hunt club, so I just hang it there until I can get to it. It costs me a few packs of sausage a year for the privledge, but that's ok. Sometimes I give 'em a whole deer if it's a good season, like last year.

I'm gonna be a little late to work. I may not get down to the grinding or anything like that, but I'd at least quarter it and throw it in the fridge or freezer.

I tend to take that into account as the morning hunt goes on , ie is there enough time to do the deed. i would most likely hang it in the shed with a bag of ice in the chest cavity, depending on the actual temperature outside of coarse. i have an air conditioner out there i turn on to help some too . it would also depend on how urgent i needed to be at work also

The ac is a good idea. I don't have one in the barn. The ideal temp for a cooler is 39degrees. An ac unit won't pull it down that low but some coolness is a good idea.

If the day's high temps are going to be cool, but not cold, say 45-60 degrees, I'll hang a deer horizontally under the deck in the shade with a bag of ice in the chest and one between the hind legs. Only for one day though... just to get me to a convenient time to butcher the next night.
