I can tell you that the weather here is perfect for the onslaught of seed ticks or what some folks like to call chiggers. hot and dry weather in the fall is a perfect breeding ground for these things and we have all of the above happening here right now. i live on a wooded lot with woods all around and they know no boundaries lol. yesterday my wife and i both got a pretty good dosing of them just going outside in the yard praying for rain so it knocks em down a bit

Seed ticks are deer ticks. And chiggers? Well, they're just chiggers.

that's right. You can get rid of ticks fairly easily, even seed ticks. Redbug or chigger bites, well, it can be a long haul.

i know the difference yet most folks when they get seed ticks refer them as "chiggers" ie the reference to them. seed ticks can leave a nasty pusey (sp) bite but chiggers and redbugs actually go under the skin don't they ?
the ticks tore her up pretty good lol, i noticed them on me early with no idea she had them and took the clorox to them , i only have a few bites. she has at least 50 give or take a few . she wandered into the high weeds to pick a weed , bad move. yesterday was a good weed picking day like every now and again and we picked weeds around everything. the roots and all came out with ease but the seed ticks were around. we got a spot of rain this morning and might get some here real soon too , i can hear the thunder but its trying to break up. rain ussually knocks them down some.

You're cruel, settin Barb on fire like that. Kerosene will take em right off without the burn of bleach. Smells though. Loggers coat their boots with kero and never get the critters. Chiggers, there is no cure/relief but time.

adult chiggers dont even bother people its the larva. they get on you skin and fine a thin spot such as ankles and inject a saliva into your pore. this creates a hard straw like thing in your pore. the saliva then actually liquifies your body and the chigger eats it. after a few hours it get off and becomes an adult. then your stuck with that straw like thing in your pore. thats what itches. if you want to check an area place a piece of black construction paper on the ground and watch for the little red buggers to crawl on the paper. only time will heel the itch is bs. ive found that a good 4' 2x2 will really nock the itch out of you but will tend to leave scares. and i would recommend hot soapy water over kerosene it works just as good

Not sure about red bugs or seed ticks, but chiggers I've had. Learned real quickly when I moved to SE Indiana not to sit down near the creek when fishing. I didn't know dry conditions were a breeding ground. I always thought they were attracted to moist or damp environments. Had 'em on my waist one time so bad that my wife thought she was gonna have to buy me a flea collar. I was a scratching fool! I don't think Indiana has the bug problems you guys on the East coast do! We have normal ticks and I have found a few on me over the years here, but I can't imagine going in the woods and coming out with red legs from the seed ticks.

red bugs and chiggers are the same critter. They like dry leaves esp in shady areas.

Sealing off the wound left by the chigger with new skin or nail polish is supposed to lessen the itching. Didn't work for me either. I have done some quick googling and the best thing it seems (besides using DEET) is to take a shower and soap up two or three times soon after getting out of the woods. The larvae crawl around on your body for a few hours searching for the best place to take a bite out of you. If you wash them off then whala no bites. www.pestproducts.com/chiggers.htm

im tellin you guys, the best itch relief is a good whacking with a decent size board. if you place a towel over your leg it will help lesson the wound but still give the smack desired.

nail polish ... eh works to help relieve some itch but stings going on and isnt very effective unless continuously applied soapy hot water may get a few off but you'll be sitting there afterwards still picking some off hmm the board treatment ....only Todd could come up with such a method of relief Kerosine.... i cant stand the smell of gas or petroleum products , makes my ciggys taste bad for hours ;D Bleach....works but does heat up the skin some and i doubt its any good for ya spraying it on but does the trick. Barb has a spray bottle she keeps bleach in for housecleaning so i just spray it on with that . Chiggarid....same thing as clear nail polish 'cept it coats 3 times as much Benzocaine ointment ...Relieves the itch so you can sleep at night for at least the first few hours. One thing we can all agree on is they suck and its best to prevent them at all costs. Permanone anyone ;D
