its been a few years since we have had a really good year. i havent been out and about much but the oaks in my yard are loaded down. they are just starting to fill out but the trees are packed to the gills with acerns ;D. i got some pics but gotta download em from the camera. i'm reading the mast is good again in Ohio this year.
hows the mast doing around your backyard ?

very heavy mast here this year. What's kinda killer is, even though I lost a lot of oaks during the hurricane, I'm one of the few that didn't log my property. So my land and another property I hunt have about the only oaks around.

Yeah it's a big factor in terms of drawing them in. Give me a huge marsh with a small say 150 acre Oak flat and every deer for several square miles will be there. Thing is too, if there isn't much pressure to push them off, that will become the breeding area as well. That's the criteria we're using for the 2 draw hunts we're pursuing this year.

Theres alot of mast in northern Ohio again this year. And just like last year, there are some hickory nuts dropping off my shagbark hickories already and I have also noticed some small acorns on the ground already. While down in Columbus a few weeks back I noticed alot of mast on the oaks down there too. Should be a good year.
