I love getting out in God's country. Listening to the woods awake in the morning and just admireing the goodness and freedoms that we have in the great U.S.A. If I happen to harvest anything...that's just a bonus... Give God ALL the Glory!!

its hard to explain, but i guess its just in my blood. i grew up hunting and fishing, and i guess that had a big influence on me. i consider myself an "ole school hunter", i just love to be in the woods, and be hunting or scouting. i hunt year round almost for deer, turkey, crows, foxes, squirrels, rabbits, quail, woodcock, ducks, geese, doves, and also do some trapping. one of the biggest reasons i hunt is probably because its fun!! like i always say, when it stops being fun, i will quit hunting.

The population reminds me of maggots and a main reason I hunt is to get away from the masses before something bad happens. ;D

I wish I could articulate it well. Hunting pleases me. It gives me a level of satisfaction that few passtimes can match.

Growing up in WV , i was around the woods my whole life. it was second nature to me since i was a very young boy to meander about in the woods, i got in trouble at a young age many a time for that . it just seemed there were endless discoveries to be found in nature, i learned a lot from being out there. i'm always interested in learning about what is unknown to me, and the woods have plenty of info to tap into. As a young boy i was always in awe when deer season came around, just being around the guys and listening to their stories made me want to grow so i could get my chance to experience the "hunt" . i was very lucky to have many positive influences in my life that helped along the way , my Dad and uncles all showed interest in bringing me along , thanks to all of them. I can remember my first kill just like it was yesterday and that was some 33 years ago. Today i hunt for several reasons. first is probably stress relief , when i enter the woods and hunt i can block out all civilization related thoughts that were once in my mind. secondly is still the desire to learn and the woods still hold many mystery's to be solved . third would be the fact that hard work and practice actually does pay off, something i also take into my normal life. fourth is the fact that through the years i have grown very fond of the taste of wild game, it helps that you get to benefit from the bounties of earth. someday i hope that my daughter holds the same feelings that i do and i can pass along my knowledge of the woods and woodsmanship that i know . thats about it in a nutshell to me without hunting i wouldnt be the person that i am today. i wouldnt have the respect for nature that i have and certainly would be a much more irratable person to be around . to steal a quote " I still love the game that we all play ". i could go on all night but for now thats about it ;D

I really can't say there is any one reason why I hunt. Hunting itself is who I am and always will be. I look at hunting like I do breathing, it lets me live. Hunting allows one to be on their own and participate in something they have very little control over. Some of our best hunts will NEVER involve killing game.
I agree that hunting allows one to get away, find solace while living part of their past. Hunting also provides challenges, life lessons and pursuits that normal, every day life no longer provides.

Being the least succesfull hunter on this forum. I sometimes wonder why I go hunting at all. However, I enjoy watching the world wake up in the morning and watching the sun go down in the evening. No phones, no tv's just peace and quiet. I enjoy sending time byself or with my sons. Also, I'm indoors at desk 5 days a week all day, I enjoy being outside.

I was raised on a ranch and can’t remember not hunting. It is as natural for me as eating and I have never gotten tired of trying to learn more and fooling the creatures. As a kid I collected specimens for universities of all types of creatures and there skulls. I raised lab. Rats and mice for science. I experimented with genetics, developing various colors and hair length on rabbits and guinea pigs. Hunting, collecting and raising animals has been a major part of my life and the more that I learn the more I want to learn.
