I can generally watch the beech trees in my yard and get an idea when the big change occurs in the local deer woods, ie, the deer switching from field crops to more woods feeding. As usual, my beech trees are loaded this year. Many hunters don't realise the amount of food beech trees provide for all sorts of wildlife each fall. It's a good timing indicator here as well.
