You like long tines worth a second look it dont get much better than this either imo Would you guys in MD consider this a trophy buck? I just want to know for my own clarification of what you guys consider to be a trophy buck in Maryland. I don't know, I've never hunted in MD. I know it differs from state to state and what region we are in. It depends on the geograhphical location, the genetics, the food sources, the weather, the overall health of the herd & etc. Don'y get me wrong, I'm not trying to slam anyones opinion on "eye candy", but is this one of the best bucks in your state? Nice buck by the way.

That's sure a trophy buck to me. I like big 8s. To me, he's more attractive as an 8 than he would be as a 10pt.

First off lets get just a few things out on the table about Maryland and these bucks. 1) The brunt of these particular bucks came from Worcester county only 2) With 6 buck tags per hunter given out for the last 8 years or so, its a small miracle to me that ANY bucks like this exist in the whole state much less 1 county . 3) Most of the better bucks killed will never be shown in public or scored, these were at the local Gander Mt in Salisbury. My big boy isnt going there , maybe my second best would . 4) Most if not all I see would easily get into the P&Y book if taken with archery equipment. I fail to see a buck there I wouldn't pull the release on myself, especially with the liberal limits we have. I know of/ heard of bigger deer taken , I heard of a 192 ish taken last year but didn't see it. I would consider them trophies in nearly any state in the country myself. Are these the biggest deer in the state, no, not likely even the biggest in the county but some very healthy stock imo. If they ever went to a 1 buck a year limit look out record book , there isn't a state out there with better genetics than we have here. heres a quote from North American Whitetail Magazine: "If you look at entries in the B&C and P&Y record books on a per-square-mile basis, Maryland is faring pretty well. In fact, when I looked at all entries from both books back in 1996, only two states -- Wisconsin and Illinois -- had entered more deer than Maryland, mile for mile. Although I haven't run the numbers lately, I feel certain Maryland still holds its own." read this article its where I got the quote. www.northamericanwhitetail.com/trophybucks/tr_0204marsh/I've seen some pretty nice deer around here, as well as other states. I'm pushing for a 1 or at the most 2 buck tag for here yearly , if that ever happens ;D I can't imagine the bliss with all that said yep I'd consider them tropies in any state and fail to see 1 I wouldn't pull on unless I've already seen a bigger one would you let them walk? if so, why

As I said, those are really nice bucks. Would I let them walk? Hell no! They're bigger than anything I've gotten so far. lol. My question was, "Would you guys in MD consider this a trophy buck? ( I'm talking about the one that freedom says " it dont get much better than this either imo" That's all. I know the size of bucks differ from state to state. Look at Kansas.......Iowa.........Michigan.........Kentucky. The only thing I wanted to know is if this a trophy buck for MD. Just for the record, I would be proud to hang a deer like that on my wall. I guess I was just asking if this deer would be considered a record buck in MD.

A statewide type trophy, I doubt it would make the top 20 in typical scores. Neighborhood trophy ,you bet ya . I would say it goes right close to 135 or so maybe higher and for an 8 point thats not bad. A buck that symetrical doesnt show up many times in ones lifetime lol. I'd shoot it in a heartbeat especially when i have other buck tags in my pocket. If I only had 1 buck tag and saw a bigger one maybe not but it would be very hard to let it walk. some folks in Md wouldnt shoot it because they have bigger bucks on their property. as far as statewide it wouldnt be a so called trophy but a trophy nonetheless in any state imo . heres a link to twangers pics of some statewide bigboys community.webshots.com/album/553452376RfbfxO

Tailnbone - To make the trophy book in Maryland a buck must have 115 P&Y net inches of antler. Between 30-40 P&Y deer (125 net inches or more) are registered for the Trophy Buck contest in Maryland every season with all weapons combined. Not that many. It's hard to say how many bucks of this caliber are killed but not registered. Perhaps one B&C buck (170 net inches) is entered in the competition each year.

twanger, 115 net, is that for bow kills only. i remember about 7 years ago my taxidermist at the time, told me that they had to score 140 to make the maryland record book. i shot one with my smokepole that year that netted 137. show me a guy that would not shoot that 10 pt on the column(in any state in the country). that deer has to be in the 160's.

ARO - I just talked to Tinker (Walter Johnson)... he runs the Maryland Trophy Deer Contest. The 115" minimum is for bow kills to be eligible to enter the Maryland Trophy Book. Any sized buck can be entered in the yearly Trophy Deer Contest, but it's got to be over 115" to go into the book.

If you are talking about the ten point the answer is YES. If your talking about the 8 point that will be hunter to hunter.
Aro I would go as far as to say the 10 point is 170.
Any where in the world 170 is a trophy to any caliber hunter for whitetails.
Don't mistake the Md record book with PY record book. 115 is MD standard for Md book it still will not make PY book.
Freedom as far as how many bucks we can take here, 90% of the Md hunters would be happy taken 1 buck a year any size let alone one that would make the MD book.
IMO very few hunters will ever shoot 6 in a season, maybe, just maybe 1% of the hunters have the time, property, skills or knowledge to do it anyhow and of that 1% 75% of them probably hold out for a more quality animal reducing his kills to one or two a year.
These are not facts just my veiw, I could be wrong but I would bet Im close.
