Got my stuff together this afternoon and drove to my spot. Got out, put my boots on, and found I'd left my coveralls home. Skeeters were already swarming and me with short sleeves, I gave up and came back home.

I hate when I forget something like that. You definitely made the right move though . The skeeters are still pretty bad up this way even with the cold temps they survived Damn Gas prices kill me going to my spots. its at least 60 miles round trip to my favorites , it adds up fast

I'm the same way about the gas. My local spots aren't that far, about 20miles round trip but it's 40+ miles round trip to my land in Gates. I haven't even been up there yet.
My local spots are looking so poor right now I may have trouble killing any deer at all unless I drive a good bit.
Have you checked out the spot you use to hunt near your house? That isn't very far.

I haven't seen anything big out back , I got a few mature does out there and a 3 and a 7 pointer but no shooter bucks to date. I have to check out a spot that is about 3 miles from the house but its some marshland , i know its full up with skeeters there , and it has serious road noise , but I've seen some big bucks there through the years.
I wish I still had permission to hunt by the radio tower , shame my friends Dad sold the land and moved to Fl. It hasnt been hunted in over 8 years , thats where all the bigger bucks I see out back once or twice a year come from across route 90. I tried twice to get permission but the owner won't budge. I'll have to concentrate around home. I also have 1 place maybe 10 miles away but it gets lots of local pressure from what I saw last year there. skeeters are near unbearable to do any worthy scouting .
