The wind has been giving me fits lately. How in the heck do you deal with a wind that during the last 90 minutes of hunting is forecast to change from a perfect SW wind to a NNE wind blowing directly into the bedding area of the best buck you're hunting? I have setups for every wind off of 3 buck bedding areas on this property and but I have none that deal with that kind of rotation during the prime hours of an afternoon hunt. I swear it's like I'm not supposed to hunt October this year.
I won't chance ruining an area to force a hunt, that's for sure.

How in the heck do you deal with a wind that during the last 90 minutes of hunting is forecast to change from a perfect SW wind to a NNE wind blowing directly into the bedding area of the best buck you're hunting? The area we hunt in Ohio is known as the land of swirling winds and I think it's a reason some bucks live to maturity. Of course this has become a major concern for me, especially since daily showering is far from practical. This presents a situation I've never really had to deal with previously as I've been able to work the wind to my advantage in the past, in fact, I feel my unending attention to wind direction and flaw is one of my strongest suits. All for nothing though where the wind sweeps like radar around the broken landscape of the rim of the world. An old hunter/warden once told me, 'if you can't beat em, join em'. Of course he was addressing poaching and law enforcement but the addage holds true in many of life's circumvents. To that end and with the advent of the new technology on the market, I think we can work within hunter unfriendly winds and still be successful, perhaps even moreso. This year I hope to reduce my emitted human scent to a level where my coverscent completely overpowers it and therefore presents me as something entirely different to the deer's nose. starting clean, I plan on using xscent and enduraskin exclusively this year and hunting the bucks much more boldly than I have previously in regard to the wind. Traveling a thousand miles on a limited timeframe doesn't give me a lot of luxury regarding hunting or not because of wind direction. Add the solace of hunting one or two specific animals from the overall herd in swirling winds and the difficulty is obvious. Modern science has given us tools that really work. Silver ion technology will be the wheels of hunting clothing from here on. I believe it very doable to convert nearly all the vapor leaving our body into scentfree molecules, basicly leaving breath odor as the only hazard. For everything else, check this out; zero odormy coverscent will be vintage S Stanley Hawbaker's Grey Fox urine that I've kept refridgerated for 30yrs, undoubtably the best cover/trail scent I've ever used.

So close, 30 yards. They came through on another trail that I had a tree picked out for. I have to go in deeper. The droppings on my way in were ridiculous. This was my third time in. I don't think I'm impacting them, with ground contamination. I need to incrementally go in deep. Anyway I tore it down. I'm going to save this bedding area till after the rut as I'm the only one hunting it and I don't have the time to really focus on this right now.

nc, I used to push the envelope with the DPM Camo British Chemical suits and was able to get away with a lot. If I was going to push it again that's the way I would go, with the use of a Nitrile glove under the camo glove and rubber boots. I buy the British suits in bulk for $8.95. I think the hand is the biggest factor as we touch everything. I used to spray my hands with an odor eliminating spray, but throwing on a pair of nitrile gloves right off is way easier. Excellent tactile sense and they don't tear easily.
