Nice big bodied Maryland public land buck - about 150 lb, perhaps more. Antlers were ok, 13.5 inch spread 8-pointer with 5-6 inch G2's. Nothing fabulous, but it's my best muzzleloader buck and the hunt was very exciting. I'll post some pics and a story when I recover. I've been hunting myself into the ground these last three days, and need some chili and some sleep, in that order (hopefully).

Congrats! I always get a little extra satisfaction taking a nice deer on public ground. Although I usually pay for it with longer/harder drags.

Thanks guys. You would not believe the drag... about a mile and a half. Had about 300 feet of elevation gain too. Gotta go, chili is calling.

Bowman - Thankfully the Vermont gents that I was hosting down here had a cart. We'd have never gotten that buck out without it. On the steepest part of the hill, even with 3 of us pushing the cart we could only make 20 yds at a time before needing to rest.

Here's another pic of the buck & me goofing around that just arrived via email from Vermont - it shows the rack off better.

It is an Encore 209X50, and I like it very much. It will shoot 1.25" 3-shot groups at 100yds. It's also quite weather proof with the closed breach.

I was trying to decide if I should retire my CVA and buy an Encore or an Omega.I really like the looks of the Encore Pro Hunter that came out this year or last.Their advertising on The Outdoor Channel is really working on me.
What load and bullet were you using?

If you're only going to use the gun for muzzleloading, the Omega is probably the way to go. I've got the .308 barrel for the gun as well.
