My son wants to shoot a slug thru his 410 for close range shots. The barrel is a full choke. Is this possible and is it safe?

yes and yes.
What little I've seen of 410s and slugs was very impressive, at least the accuracy at 20yds.
expensive shooting though.

perfectly legal in NC. so is marrying your sister! welcome back boman! don't have a sister so that's one I missed. ;D A friend of mine has a 410 that is a bad gun with slugs, accuracy wise. He can consistantly hit dime size targets at 20yds.

But is it a full or modified choke? full Most 410s are full choke and I've seen slugs fired through perhaps a half dozen in my life, including one doublebarrel with a full on one side and a mod on the other. The full choke barrel shot slugs better although both were deadly. We checked. Beyond 40 to 50 yds, they start wandering more than 12ga slugs imo but in the right hands a 410 will shoot good enough to kill deer out to 40yds easily. That said, I think the 410 about the poorest choice one could make in a shotgun. I started my boys off on 20 and 12 ga respectively. I liked em to kill something once in a while. Here's a page that kinda goes along with my thinking. www.chuckhawks.com/410bore.htmIf they ain't big enough to shoot a hi brass 20ga, give em a 22mag.
