my tribute only chrono'd 272 with smooth mod and a cx300 w/100gr. tips. 70lbs. and 29" draw. i thought that was a little slow. there was another guy there with an allegiance with same draw and #. he used my arrow and shot 298fps w/ the speed mod.

congrats, when we gonna shoot some? 272 is plenty fast with your arrows. The other bow likely is not as easy to pull, accurate, nor quiet as yours, do you think?

Something don't seem right, I'm getting more than that with my Outback. What do you have on the string? Also what did the birth certificate indicate for the bow?

the smooth mod takes some speed off.
It doesn't sound bad to me considering that but I don't know what's standard for those bows.

I think everyone gets way too into bow speeds myself. lets look at this logically... 20 yard shot =60 ft 272 fps = less than a 1/4 of a second to reach the target 298 fps= just over 1/3 of a second to reach the target
that isnt enough to get worried about, i mean bowspeeds hardly show at all in 35 yards or less, and wouldnt be very noticable in over 35 yard shots. its a matter of how the bow feels and shoots for you. i mean if a bow gets there in half a smidge of a blink quicker but you cant hit the intended target , than is that bow any better ? i think too much is taken into the bow speed crap, its just another selling point imo. i mean 1/4 second 1/3 of a second, does it really matter that much??

well .... , faster the arrow is, the flatter it flys. That gets more important as the distance increases. The highspeed bows allow the archer to squeeze a little more room for ranging error on long shots. This comes with a price though because the fastest bows tend to be very touchy. I like bows that I can torque a little and still hit reasonably close at 20yds, then if I take a shot at an odd lean, sitting, or something, I still feel confident the arrow will be right there.

The thing though, those arrows are relatively light and that bow, unless there's a heavy peep on there with the tubing should make mid 280's easily. So you start wondering if everything is to specs or something.

I tend to disagree. Sounds fine to me. With the speed module it should get 285+. The smooth mod is for comfort and forgiveness. I think 272 from a cadillac draw and release is great. I'm lookin forward to seein Todd again and checkin it out.

That's a fast Birth certificate. Doesn't seem like you have that much on that string. Unless I'm figuring the arrow weight wrong I would have figured 290+. I don't know much about those bows though and what they require in terms of getting optimal performance out of them. I know that design synchronizes automatically but maybe the cam timing is off. In any event though I'd shoot it in first and then get it put back to specs and then look at the speed again. I'm pretty sure it's going to come up then. I'll put some posts up on Equalizer timing, see what we can learn.

I posted up the question about cam timing at a couple of forums, we'll see what they say.

"the birth certificate says 315fps w/smooth mod. heres some pics."
That seems too fast. That bow is rated 312-320 with the smooth mod at IBO, it shouldn't get 315 with a smooth mod at 29".

I'd agree. Max speed is usually measured with 5gr/lb arrows, a single nock-set on the string, and with 30" draw. That inch of draw will cost you about 10 fps, and the string-loop, peep, & kisser along with the anti-vibration spiders will nock off quite a few fps... probably another 10 or more. How much do your arrows weigh?

i believe the arrows weighed around 38?. heres the cirtificate. says 71lbs. 30in. draw. says the test is done with the hush kit installed.
